The 2026 Budget

The 2026 Budget was approved by Council on February 23rd, 2026.

On February 25th, 2026, the Mayor issued a decision (DEC-2026-01) advising that he would not be exercising the Strong Mayor Powers to veto Council’s approval of the budget. The Mayor also confirmed that he was shortening the veto period from 10 days to 2 days.

As a result, the 2026 Budget took effect on February 25, 2026th.

Resulting Tax Levy Changes

The approved 2026 Budget results in the following changes:

The 2026 Municipal Budget approved by Council provides an increase to the tax levy of 4.97%.

• The increase to the Township’s portion of the tax levy is 7.58% (representing 55.8% of the total levy)
• The increase to the County’s portion of the tax levy is 2.46% (representing 33.2% of the total levy)
• The Province announced the education portion of the tax levy will remain at the 2025 rate with no increase (representing 11.0% of the total levy)

For a median single family home assessment for 2026 of $202,000, unchanged from 2025, the increase in taxes for 2026 will be $133.13.

These combined impacts will be reflected in the 2026 final property tax bill. Residents are encouraged to review the detailed budget documents for a full breakdown of service areas, capital investments, and departmental funding.
