Entranceways & Culverts
In order to establish an entranceway onto your property, a permit must first be issued.
If you live on a County Road you must contact the County Roads Department to make this application.
By-law 11-35 of the Corporation of the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley states that the term “entranceway”:
… Shall mean any driveway, lane, private road, entrance or other structure or facility constructed or used as a means of access to a township road, and includes the tiling and covering or filling in of a roadside ditch for the purpose of improving a lawn or other frontage.
Why do I need an Entrance Permit?
Section 2.04 of By-law 11-35, the Entranceways By-law, states that permits are required in order that:
…The location of the entranceway must be approved by the Road Superintendent to ensure maximum safety, free flow of traffic and compliance with municipal by-laws and to minimize the possibility of interference with the road or the creation of a maintenance problem.
Entrance Permits On Township Roads
Applications for an entranceway onto a Township road must be made to the Public Works Department of the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley.
The permit fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) must be received by the Township before the permit can be issued.

The Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley will begin its 2025 roadway line painting operations starting next week on Monday, July 14th.
What time of day does line painting occur?
Line painting may be completed during midday, evening, or nighttime hours.
Why don’t line painters just paint at night?
Line painting at night isn’t ideal as road surface and atmospheric temperatures are changing at different rates, often resulting in condensation on the roadway. This creates poor conditions for paint to adhere to the roadway.
How long does it take for road paint to dry?
Normal latex (water-based paint) used for roadway application typically dries within two (2) minutes of application (weather depending).
Paint operations are causing traffic backups; can I pass the warning trucks?
The intent of the warning trucks behind the line painter is to provide sufficient space and time to allow for the paint to dry. If you drive over the yellow centerline to pass line painting operations, you risk paint ending up on your vehicle. Please be patient and follow the direction of the warning trucks.
What if I get paint on my vehicle?
If paint gets on your vehicle, go through a car wash or power spray your vehicle as soon as possible. If that doesn’t remove the road paint, you can try spraying WD-40 on the affected area, letting it dry for two hours, and then rewashing it with soap, water, and a sponge. Alternative methods to remove road paint include applying Vaseline to the affected area, letting it sit overnight, and rewashing it. It is not recommended to scrub the affected area with any type of abrasive pad or cloth. All attempts to remove road paint are done at your own risk.
If I cannot remove the paint, is the Township responsible?
The Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley assumes no liability for paint damages to any vehicles that have crossed wet paint lines or disobeyed the warning signs and guide vehicles.
