Honouring Sylvia Foxton: 2025 Ontario Senior of the Year

At last night’s Council meeting, Mayor Burrow presented Sylvia Foxton with the 2025 Ontario Senior of the Year Award on behalf of the Township and the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. The award recognizes seniors over 65 who continue to make a meaningful difference in their communities, something Sylvia has done for decades.

With more than 40 years of volunteer service in the Village of Lyn and surrounding area, Sylvia has had a hand in shaping community life in countless ways.

Below are just some of the organizations and events she’s been involved with:

·         Lyn Tincap Public School (12 years)

·         Lyn Girl Guides and Brownies (10 years)

·         Upper Canada Swim Club (12 years)

·         Lyn and District Softball Association (20 years)

·         Brockville Blazers Girls Basketball (10 years)

·         Brockville Blues Boys Basketball – Volunteer and Convener

·         Lyn Bandshell Committee

·         Village of Lyn festivals, including Lyn Days, the Bi-Centennial, and the 225th Anniversary (30 years)

·         Christ United Church – UCW Women’s Group (10 years)

·         Local Health Integration Networks (4 years)

·         Brockville General Hospital – Patient and Family Advisory Council (4 years)

·         Village beautification projects, including care of the Village Pump

Sylvia’s dedication over the years has touched every corner of community life, and her impact is still felt today.
